Lakefield Curling Club raises over $15,000 for Lakefield fire relief
On Saturday, November 1, the Lakefield Curling Club (LCC) hosted a community fundraising event that brought in an incredible $15,242.34 in support of those affected by the recent Home Hardware fire in Lakefield.
The club had initially set a goal of raising $5,000 through a bonspiel, player pledges, and a silent auction, but the outpouring of community support far exceeded expectations.
Funds raised will help provide essential relief and comfort to families facing hardships as a result of the tragedy. The Lakefield Curling Club partnered with the Lakefield Lions Club, who will facilitate the distribution of funds to the impacted families.

The success of the event was made possible by the dedication of LCC members and volunteers. Many contributed by playing in the bonspiel, setting up, bartending, organizing games, preparing and serving food, managing the silent auction, and handling cleanup. A hearty meal of chili and salads was prepared by a group of volunteers, with much of the food generously donated by members.
Adding to the atmosphere, Kate Kelly volunteered her time to provide live musical entertainment, filling the club with energy and camaraderie throughout the day.
The curling portion of the fundraiser featured one draw with two games, where six-person teams rotated positions. The “loonie for a hog” challenge added a playful twist to the competition. Congratulations were extended to Deb Whitshire, Sean Plumpton, Rob Hanes, Louanne Hanes, Andrea Seely, and John Shaw for their participation and sportsmanship.
The silent auction table was a highlight, featuring an impressive array of items donated by local businesses, members, friends, and family. The bidding was both competitive and friendly, reflecting the generosity and community spirit that define Lakefield.
Throughout the day, guests enjoyed refreshments, snacks, and plenty of time to socialize. This made the event not only a successful fundraiser but also a celebration of togetherness.
This event was a powerful reminder of the compassion and unity that define both the Lakefield Curling Club and the broader community. The LCC extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed, donated, or participated in any way to make this fundraiser such a success.
