Community support continues for those affect by Lakefield fire
Nearly three weeks after a devastating fire destroyed the Kawartha Home Hardware building at the corner of Queen and Burnham Streets in Downtown Lakefield, support from the community continues.
Two fundraising events are planned for Saturday, November 1 to help those impacted by the fire.
At the Lakefield Legion, a benefit concert featuring the Nephton Ridge Runners begins at 2:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted at the door, with proceeds supporting affected families.
Also on November 1, the Lakefield Curling Club and Lakefield Village Lions Club are teaming up to host a fundraising bonspiel. Funds will be raised through registration fees, pledges, donations, and a silent auction. For more information, contact the Village Lions at lakefieldvillagelionsclub@gmail.com or the Lakefield Curling Club at lccinformation@nexicom.net.

Support will also come from this year’s Ladies Night Out in Lakefield. Proceeds from ticket sales for the popular shopping and dining event will be donated to those impacted by the fire. Ladies Night runs Tuesday and Thursday evenings from November 13 to December 2, with merchants and restaurants open late. Tickets are available at www.ladiesnightoutlakefield.com.
In addition, several local businesses continue to accept cash and gift card donations to assist affected families.
In a post shared on October 22, the Lakefield Village Lions Club noted that “the families have indicated that they are well supplied with clothing and other items for now, until they settle into more permanent housing.”
