Burnham Street reopens to traffic in Lakefield
The Township of Selwyn announced Wednesday afternoon that Burnham Street in Lakefield has reopened to traffic, marking another milestone in the community’s recovery following the October fire at Kawartha Home Hardware.
With both Queen Street and Burnham Street now open, access through the Village’s downtown core has been fully restored. Pedestrian detours remain in place along the section of Queen and Burnham Streets immediately adjacent to the fire-affected site, where fencing will stay up until all site restoration activities are complete.
Streetlight Installation Timeline
During the fire response, two streetlights on Queen Street were removed to protect the lighting heads and ensure firefighter safety. The Township is now working towards the reinstallation of the streetlight poles and fixtures, which will help bring additional brightness and safety to the downtown area during the busy holiday season.
