St. John’s Anglican Church launches ‘Knitvember Challenge’
St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in Lakefield is launching its ‘Knitvember Challenge’ — a winter clothing drive, encouraging local knitters and crafters to make as many winter accessories as they can throughout the month of November.
The initiative is seeking adult-sized hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, socks and shawls. Donated items will be provided to the street ministry team at Lakefield Baptist Church for distribution to people in need in the local community. Last year, the community filled six large boxes with handmade knit items for those in need.
Donations can be dropped off at St. John’s Anglican Church, 81 Regent Street in Lakefield on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday mornings. Donors are asked to use the Regent Street entrance, a marked donation bin will be available for items.
The deadline for donations is Monday, November 30.
For those who are unable to make it to the church, pick-up can be arranged by emailing admin@stjohnslakefield.ca. St. John’s can also provide yarn for anyone who would like to participate but is short on supplies.
The church is encouraging residents to take advantage of the longer evenings and put their knitting needles or crochet hooks to work for a good cause.
