Free senior skating returns thanks to community sponsors

The Township of Selwyn has announced the return of free senior skating in Lakefield and Ennismore, thanks to the support of local sponsors.

Free weekly skating for seniors will be take place October through March at the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre and the Ennismore Community Centre.

Residents aged 55 and over can enjoy a slower paced, leisurely skate allowing them to maintain an active lifestyle, enjoy time with friends, and connect with others in the community.

Senior skating sessions are available on:

  • Mondays from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Ennismore Community Centre, 553 Ennis Rd., Ennismore

  • Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre, 20 Concesssion St., Lakefield

Free senior skating is made possible due to the support of local sponsors. Hendren Funeral Homes - a Division of Opus Tribute Group, is supporting the program in Lakefield, while Swish Maintenance and Blue Diamond Window Cleaning have teamed up to sponsor senior skating in Ennismore.

Residents can also enjoy public skating for all ages:

  • in Lakefield on Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.,

  • and in Ennismore on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

The cost for public skating is $3 per person, unless the session is sponsored.

Parent & Tot skating also returns, offering a slower paced leisurely skate, providing a safe environment to introduce your child to skating.

Parent & Tot skating takes place:

  • in Ennismore on Mondays from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.,

  • and in Lakefield on Tuesdays from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

(Note: There will be no Parent & Tot skating in Ennismore on Monday, October 26th, 2026 and Monday, February 1st, 2027.)

There will also be no public skating on holidays.
