Ron Black acclaimed as Mayor of Selwyn Township

Ron Black has been acclaimed as the next Mayor of the Township of Selwyn. The Township formally declared the acclamations on Monday, August 24, after the August 21 nomination deadline.
Current Lakefield Ward Councillor, John Boyko, was also acclaimed as Deputy Mayor, and Mary Coulas was acclaimed for her second term as Ennismore Ward Councillor.

Black, who currently serves as Selwyn’s Deputy Mayor posted a statement to Instagram on August 24. Black said he was “deeply honoured and humbled” to be acclaimed as the next mayor.
“Thank you to the residents who have supported me, encouraged me, trusted me and placed your confidence in me,” Black said. “Serving our community has always been a privilege, and I look forward to taking on this new responsibility with the same commitment, openness, and dedication that have guided me throughout my years in municipal government and service to my community.”
Black also thanked the community and looked ahead to the next term, saying Selwyn is “a wonderful place because of the people who call it home.”
“Together, we will continue working to build a strong, vibrant and welcoming community—one that respects our past while preparing confidently for the future,” he said.

Black also congratulated Boyko on his acclamation as Deputy Mayor and Coulas on her acclamation as Ennismore Ward Councillor. He wished the candidates running in the Lakefield and Smith wards all the best in their campaigns.
Black has served on Selwyn Township Council as Deputy Mayor since 2022. He previously served as a councillor for the Smith Ward from 1993-2000.
Boyko has served on Selwyn Township Council as the Lakefield Ward representative since 2022.
The acclamations come following Mayor Sherry Senis’ announcement in July that she would not seek re-election.

Michael Barrett, who had initially filed as a candidate for Lakefield Ward Councillor, withdrew his nomination on August 20.
The 2026 municipal and school board election will take place on Monday, October 26, 2026. Voting will open at 10 a.m. on October 13 and will be available 24 hours a day until 8 p.m. on October 26. Selwyn Township is offering internet and telephone voting.
Voters will receive a personalized Voter Information Letter before the election with the information required to vote, including a unique PIN and instructions for voting online or by telephone.
Public computers and telephones will also be available at the Selwyn Township Municipal Office during the voting period, and public computers will be available at Selwyn Public Library branches in Bridgenorth, Ennismore and Lakefield.
