Lakefield Village Lions Club launches new mixed 3-pitch tournament fundraiser

The Lakefield Village Lions Club is inviting local baseball players to step up to the plate for a new community fundraiser this summer.

The Club will host its inaugural Mixed 3-Pitch Tournament on Saturday, August 22, at the Douglas Sports Centre in Lakefield. A rain date has been scheduled for Sunday, August 23.

Organizers are aiming to welcome six to eight teams for the one-day tournament, with proceeds supporting the Lakefield Village Lions Club and its ongoing work in the community. Teams are guaranteed three games, with prizes awarded to the first and second place finishers.

The tournament is open to mixed teams of at least nine players, including a minimum of four women. Registration is $250 per team, and organizers are asking interested teams to register by Friday, August 14.

“Both the project leaders are former baseball players and love hanging out on the diamond,” said Lion Sandra Wren. “We have been running the concession stand at Douglas Sports Centre for over seven years, so our members have had the joy of serving the minor and adult leagues and wanted to do something more.”

In addition to the tournament, the concession stand will be open throughout the day, and a 50/50 raffle will give players and spectators another way to support the fundraiser.

Teams interested in participating can register by contacting the Village Lions 705-652-7337 or 416-809-0855 before the August 14.
