Lakefield Literary Festival presents ‘An Evening of Stories and Songs’ with Natalie MacMaster

By Stacey Sullivan

The Lakefield Literary Festival will welcome celebrated Canadian fiddler and author Natalie MacMaster to Lakefield this November for an evening of stories, conversation, and music.

An Evening of Stories and Songs with Natalie MacMaster, in conversation with Megan Murphy, will take place Saturday, November 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Lakefield United Church.

The evening will explore MacMaster’s remarkable journey from growing up on Cape Breton Island to performing on stages around the world. The conversation will be inspired by her new book, I Have a Love Story, which offers an intimate look at her life both on and off the stage.

MacMaster’s book, I Have a Love Story, reflects on her musical career, meeting her husband and fellow fiddler Donnell Leahy, and raising their seven children while maintaining a life as a high-profile touring musician.

MacMaster received her first fiddle at age nine and released her first recording at 16. Over the course of her career, she has performed internationally, received two Juno Awards and a Grammy nomination, and shared the stage with artists including Alison Krauss, Carlos Santana, The Chieftains, Yo-Yo Ma, and Raffi.

In I Have a Love Story, MacMaster reflects on her musical career, meeting her husband and fellow fiddler Donnell Leahy, and raising their seven children while maintaining a life as a high-profile touring musician.

During the Lakefield event, MacMaster will discuss her life, music and writing process with moderator Megan Murphy, whose career in the performing arts has included work in film, television, theatre and radio. Murphy is also a published writer and filmmaker and was co-creator of Wild Irish Geese.

The evening will include a musical performance, along with stories and conversation about MacMaster’s remarkable career and family life.

Tickets are $30 and are available online at www.lakefieldliteraryfestival.com or in person at Happenstance Books & Yarns.
