Christ Church exhibits highlight second generation of Moodie family
The Christ Church Community Museum opens for the season on Wednesday, July 1, and will be open daily, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., from July 1 to September 7, 2026.
New exhibits this year will highlight the second generation of Susanna and John Moodie's family. Be prepared for some hair-raising tales involving 'spirit adventures' and communicating with the dead.
Susanna Moodie and Catharine Parr Traill: a Study in Contrasts will focus on their relationship to each other and what the women were like behind their authorial voices.
The popular Christ Church graveyard walking tour, and exhibit talks will return on:
Thursday, July 9 — An Introduction to the Moodie Family with guide Joe Latour
Thursday, July 23 — Susanna Moodie and Spiritualism with guide Barry Mutter
Wednesday, August 19 — John Dunbar Moodie and Spiritualism with guide Barry Mutter, and
Wednesday, September 2 — Cemetery Tour with guide Joe Latour.

Christ Church also offers morning Holy Communion services during the summer months. These services take place at 8:30 a.m. on the Sundays of the long weekends:

Established in 1854, Christ Church is Lakefield’s oldest Anglican church. Under the sponsorship of St John’s, the historic building, located at 62 Queen Street, now operates as a museum and event space.
