Ron Black announces candidacy for Mayor of Selwyn Township

The first candidate for the upcoming municipal election in Selwyn Township has been announced. In a media release sent Thursday morning, Deputy Mayor Ron Black stated he is running for mayor.
In the release, Black cited the upcoming retirement of several senior municipal staff and the 2026 election as a significant period of transition for the township.
“I’m running for Mayor because Selwyn needs strong, steady leadership during this time of change,” Black said.
He identified managing growth, affordability, and maintaining municipal services as key priorities.

Black, who currently serves as Deputy Mayor and Peterborough County Councillor, has also held roles with the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority and the Lakelands Public Health Board. He has been involved in municipal politics for several decades and has a background in business and community volunteer work.
The release also highlights his past involvement in local environmental advocacy efforts and ongoing work with regional organizations and community initiatives.
At the time of publication, incumbent Mayor Sherry Senis has not announced whether she will seek re-election.
The nomination period for this election runs from May 1, 2026 - August 21, 2026. Nomination papers can be filed at the Selwyn Township municipal office, 1310 Centre Line, Selwyn, from May 1 - August 20, 2026, Monday-Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and on August 21, 2026 between 8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
The municipal election is set for October 26, 2026.
