New Women's Business Network launching in Selwyn Township

A new initiative is taking shape in Selwyn, with the goal of bringing together women who own, operate, and lead businesses throughout the community.

The Selwyn Women's Business Network (SWBN) will host its inaugural gathering on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, providing an opportunity for local businesswomen to connect, exchange ideas, build relationships, and strengthen ties within the township's business community.

The initiative was inspired by local businesswoman Shannon Junkin, who recognized an opportunity to bring together the many women contributing to Selwyn's vibrant local economy.

"The idea came to me while I was out visiting local businesses on behalf of BEL Rotary," says Junkin. "I found myself speaking with so many incredible women who were running businesses throughout our community. It struck me that while we're all working hard within our own businesses, there could be real value in creating an opportunity for us to come together."

The network aims to provide an inclusive, welcoming environment where women from a variety of industries and business backgrounds can share experiences, develop professional connections, and support one another.

The inaugural gathering is planned for Tuesday, November 10, at the Bridgenorth Community Hall, with a $5 attendance fee to help offset venue and refreshment costs.

The event will feature informal networking, coffee and conversation, and a guest speaker. Mayor Sherry Senis is slated as the inaugural guest speaker.

Women who own, operate, or manage businesses within Selwyn Township are encouraged to attend. Participants are also welcome to extend the invitation to other local businesswomen who may be interested in becoming involved.

The Selwyn Women's Business Network hopes to establish quarterly meetings beginning in 2027, with programming shaped by the interests and needs of its participants.
