Mayor Sherry Senis will not seek re-election in Selwyn Township

In her announcement, Senis reflected on her time in local government, noting she has served as Smith Ward councillor, deputy mayor and mayor. She said she has spent 20 years serving Selwyn Township, in addition to three years in public office in Pickering.

Senis thanked past and present members of council and municipal staff for their support throughout her time in office and said one of her proudest accomplishments was maintaining fiscal discipline while keeping property taxes among the lowest in Peterborough County.

"Thank you all for your years of support. It has been an honour to serve Selwyn as your Mayor, and I will continue to do so until the end of this term," Senis said in her social media post.

With Senis not seeking another term, the race for mayor currently includes Deputy Mayor Ron Black.

For deputy mayor, John Boyko has announced his candidacy. Candidates for council include Mary Coulas, who is seeking re-election as Ennismore Ward Councillor (Ward 10), Brian Henry, who is seeking re-election as Smith Ward Councillor (Ward 20), and Michael Barrett, who is running for Lakefield Ward Councillor (Ward 30).

The 2026 municipal election will take place on Monday, October 26, 2026.
