LAWS Doggie Dash returns to Lakefield this Sunday
Community members and business owners may notice an influx of dogs in the Village on Sunday as the Lakefield Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) hosts its annual Doggie Dash fundraiser.
Taking place on Sunday, June 14, the popular community event brings together animal lovers and their four-legged companions to raise funds in support of animals in the care of LAWS.
Participants can choose between two walking routes through downtown Lakefield, a 1.5-kilometre walk or a 2.5-kilometre walk. Both routes begin and end at Isabel Morris Park and will be led by Betty Baker and Washboard Hank. The walks are scheduled to begin shortly after 1:00 p.m., with participants and their dogs making their way through the village.

In an email to Discover Lakefield, Lyndsay Lisson-De Ell, Director of Operations for LAWS, described the Doggie Dash as a "community fundraising event that brings together animal lovers and their dogs to raise funds in support of the animals in our care. Funds raised help provide shelter, medical care, enrichment, and adoption services for animals in need."
Following the walk, attendees can enjoy an afternoon of live entertainment, games, food vendors, and a variety of vendors. Live music will be provided by Caitlin O'Connor.
Anyone interested in joining the Doggie Dash, or making a donation, can visit the LAWS website. To take part in the walk, each participant or team is required to raise a minimum of $100. Registered participants receive their own fundraising profile and are encouraged to share their personalized fundraising link with family, friends, and supporters.
New this year is a silent auction featuring a variety of items available for bidding. Online bidding closes at 10:00 a.m. on June 14, with in-person bidding continuing during the event.
Residents are encouraged to watch for walkers and their canine companions throughout downtown Lakefield on Sunday afternoon and consider stopping by Isabel Morris Park to join in the festivities and support a great cause.
