Lakefield Animal Welfare Society launches 50/50 raffle to help local animals through winter

Lakefield Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) has launched its next 50/50 Raffle, inviting Ontario residents to support animals in need for a chance to take home half the growing jackpot.

Following a successful spring raffle, LAWS is once again turning to community generosity to help fund the care of animals at the shelter. Tickets are available until Tuesday, December 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with the draw taking place at 2:00 p.m.

Funds raised will help LAWS provide essential veterinary treatment, daily care, and other necessities for the animals in the shelter. This support was especially important during a demanding summer kitten season, when the organization’s foster homes were caring for as many as 100 mother cats and kittens at a time.

Many kittens rescued from outdoor environments arrive with parasites or illnesses that require close monitoring, medical treatment, specialized gastrointestinal-support food, and, in some cases, urgent veterinary visits. LAWS staff and foster volunteers worked tirelessly to meet these needs and helps vulnerable animals recover, grow, and find loving homes.

“Community contributions make it possible for us to care for the animals who come through our doors,” says Lyndsay Lisson-De Ell, Director of Operations at LAWS. “Our staff and volunteers put so much compassion and commitment into this work, and as an organization that does not receive government funding for our operations, we rely on our neighbours, local businesses, and the wider community for vital support. We’re grateful to everyone who buys tickets and shares the raffle, or finds another way to support the animals in our care.”

Alongside the ongoing animal care work, LAWS is preparing for internal building upgrades to help maintain a comfortable, well-functioning facility for the future. These urgent improvements include new mechanical systems, and LAWS may be operating as appointment-only for all visitors while the contractors complete the work. Further details will be shared with the community as they become available.

The 50/50 raffle is one of several ways community members can help sustain LAWS and its work.
