Brian Henry seeks re-election as Smith Ward councillor
Selwyn Township Councillor Brian Henry has announced he is seeking re-election for Smith Ward (Ward 20) in the upcoming municipal election.
Henry, who was first elected in 2022, announced his candidacy in a media release Tuesday afternoon, stating his priorities include responsible financial management, continued investment in roads and community infrastructure, strengthening emergency preparedness, supporting safe and sustainable growth, protecting Selwyn Township's rural character, and maintaining open communication with residents.
"Over the past four years, I have worked hard to be accessible, transparent, and accountable," said Henry. "Every decision I make begins with one question: What is in the best interest of the residents of Smith Ward and Selwyn Township?"

Henry currently serves as Director of the Emergency Operations Centre with The Loomex Group, where he leads emergency management operations supporting municipalities and Indigenous communities during large-scale emergencies across Ontario. He also serves on the Peterborough County OPP Detachment Board.
In his announcement, Henry said his experience in emergency management has shaped his approach to municipal leadership, emphasizing preparation, collaboration and informed decision-making. He also said conversations with residents throughout his first term have helped guide his work on council.
"I am proud of what we've accomplished together, but there is still important work ahead,” Henry said. “I would be honoured to continue serving the residents of Smith Ward and respectfully ask for your support as I seek a second term on Selwyn Township Council."
Henry is the first candidate to file nomination papers for Smith Ward Councillor (Ward 20).
The current list of candidates includes Ron Black for mayor, John Boyko for deputy mayor, Michael Barrett for Lakefield Ward Councillor (Ward 30), Mary Coulas for Ennismore Ward Councillor (Ward 10), and Brian Henry for Smith Ward Councillor (Ward 20).
